Question 1A
Archaeological discoveries across the Europe have over two hundred caves, which have
outstanding paintings, several drawings and sculptures. In Lascaux and Altamira, similar
motifs in the cave paintings include huge wild animals, such as horses, aurochs and deer.
Tracings of mankind hands and hand stencils are also common in the cave paintings. The bull
image in both cave paintings is shaped like an arrow pointing upward. While the bull image
differ in colours as in both cave paintings.
One of the theory about the cave paintings suggest that the prehistoric individuals, who
utilized the cave in those days maybe had a believe that the only approach they can use, to
overpower their prey is through creation of images of the prey during the performance of
their rituals. Another theory about the purpose and the of the cave paintings is how the
images in the cave are a product of rites to build a strong foundation on clan bonds and
ceremonies, to promote the degree of fertility is the image of animals in the cave were used
for food.
